"Shipping containers are considerably more durable than standard construction, can cost less, and most importantly are about 30% faster to build," founder Shel Kimen writes on the Collison Works blog (as reported by Curbed Detroit). Shipping-containers-as-building-materials have only come into vogue in the past decade, and this sort of post-industrial repurposing and sustainability certainly seems to have a natural home in Detroit.
