VIDEO: Vacant Not Blighted - Revitalizing Detroit
Michigan Historic Preservation Network
Friday, August 01, 2014
Detroit is facing enormous challenges with an abundance of vacant and abandoned buildings in the city. Demolition is a necessary part of moving the city forward, but Detroit can't just demo its way to revitalization. Here, individuals on the ground in Detroit show that through strategic preservation and rehabilitation of commercial and residential structures, you can change the dynamic one building at a time and demonstrate that just because it's vacant, doesn't mean it's blighted. Order & Other
Friday, October 25, 2013
Ponyride
is a study to see how the foreclosure crisis can have a positive impact on our communities. Using an 'all boats rise with the tide' rent subsidy, we are able to provide cheap space for socially-conscious artists and entrepreneurs to work and share knowledge, resources and networks. We purchased a 30,000 square-foot warehouse for $100,000 and offer space for $0.10-$0.20 per square-foot, which includes the cost of utilities. Video by
